University Model

The University ModelTM  is a method of organizing education that redirects some portion of traditional classroom time to the home, encouraging strong family relationships. The approach employs a university-style schedule adapted to primary and secondary school environment.

  • Professional teachers conduct classroom instruction.
  • Students attend school between 12 and 20 hours per week.
  • Alternate days at home where parents continue the instruction or monitor student progress.
What It Looks Like

Elementary School

Attend class 2 days a week
Parents are co-teachers

Middle School

Attend class 2-3 days a week
Guided study at home

High School

Attend classes at various times
Independent study at home
(just like college)

Involved Parents

Parents need not have teaching experience but must commit the time to actively engage, direct, instruct, and mentor their students. The approach caters to a wide variety of student needs by allowing a range of enrollment and course request opportunities; however, to receive a diploma from St. Augustine, certain residency and course credit requirements must be met.
